  • Alabama Governor’s Office of Faith Based Community Initiatives mission is “To expand the capacity and partnerships of those seeking to transform Alabama’s communities.” Its website has information for those seeking to volunteer or donate to the recovery effort. http://www.servealabama.gov/2010/default.aspx

  • If the wildlife of Florida is important to you, contact the Audubon of Florida (http://fl.audubonaction.org), which has a special oil spill fund, and provides information on how you may volunteer in the recovery efforts.

  • The Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans has aided thousands of victims of the spill by providing assistance in the form of food boxes, food vouchers, gift cards, diapers, baby formula and crisis counseling services. http://www.ccano.org/?page_id=207

  • The Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana is coordinating with local, state, and federal authorities to provide assistance to the Gulf Region. They are requesting help in the form of donations and willing volunteers.http://lagulfresponse.org/home.html

  • The Greater New Orleans Foundation has a rich history of joining with other philanthropic organizations to address issues affecting the New Orleans Community. The foundation is providing assistance to victims of the Gulf Disaster through the Gulf Spill Oil Fund. http://www.gnof.org/donors/give-now/

  • The Gulf Relief Foundation raised over 300 thousand dollars for victims of the disaster during their benefit concert and is still dedicated to the recovery effort in the Gulf. http://www.gulfaid.org/index.html

  • Since Hurricane Katrina, the Louisiana Disaster Recovery Foundation has been committed to the recovery of the fisherman and families affected by disaster in the Gulf. After the spill, their commitment to the assistance and restoration of the Gulf’s residents remains stronger than ever. They are also dedicated to pursuing policy initiatives which will ensure that the residents of the Gulf will be protected from man-made ecological disasters in the future. http://www.louisianahelp.org/

  • Even before the spill, the National Wildlife Federation was in the Gulf of Mexico fighting to restore the habitats of wildlife inhabiting Louisiana’s rapidly disappearing coast. Now, the NWF has mobilized in an effort to educate people about the disaster and its environmental implications.   • The Nature Conservancy is committed to addressing the long term environmental issues of the Gulf which extend beyond the immediate clean up and recovery.   • First Lady Supriya Jindal of Louisiana asked people to contribute school supplies to families affected by the catastrophe in the Gulf.
